Twitter virgins

Today was tough. There were a lot of fights and craziness. It was stressful. And I had two meetings after school.

The first meeting was blissfully brief.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the second meeting. A group of teachers and facilitators had been asked to meet and talk about creating a district PLN Twitter hashtag and chat.

Planning Professional Development is always interesting. It can also be stressful and dry and contentious and complicated.

So I knew this meeting would be complex.

I wasn't expecting it to be so much fun.

We laughed, we talked, we played. Some of us were total Twitter virgins. A few had made it to first or maybe second base. We had one or two who might have rounded third on the way to expert (not me, FYI).

The discussion was frank as we pushed ourselves to examine our own strengths and limitations as well as what we can do for the district.

We now have a Google Classroom page, a Remind group, a Twitter hashtag, a time and topic for our first chat, and a plan for what else to try next.

That's pretty impressive for about an hour's worth of work.

Had anyone else stumbled upon us, it would have looked like chaos. Like half of us were playing on our phones and ignoring the group. Like we were having too much fun to get much done.

The opposite was true. In a dozen different ways, we were all engaged and learning. I haven't had many learning experiences that enjoyable.

Fun is always a good thing. And a great way to end a day.
